JA/I&u/~ '~. /(A~ Clerk' of Council . . MEMORANDUM TO: Council Members FROM: Timothy C. Hansley, City Manager/~ SUBJECT: Extension of Trash Collection Contract DATE: September 3, 1987 Attached please find an Ordinance authorizing a 90 day extension of the current trash collection contract between the City of Dublin and Laidlaw Waste Systems at a rate of $5.75 per unit. Due to my recent arrival to the City of Dublin, there has not been sufficient time to prepare bid specifications, advertise, receive, and analyze bids. Therefore I am requesting the authorization to extend the current contract for a period of 90 days in order that we may properly advertise for, receive, and analyze bids for trash collection services. Laidlaw Haste Systems has agreed to extend the existing contract for 90 days, however, they have requested a rate increase from $3.699 to $5.75 per unit for this period of time. The rate increase to $5.75 per unit is reflective of increased costs for the transportation and disposal of waste and appears to be competitive with existing market rates. Since the current contract expires on September 30, 1987, I would respectfully request that the attached Ordinance be adopted as emergency legislation. TCH:fmu
