AN ORDINANCE REGULATING THE
MAINTENANCE OF PRIVATE FIRE
HYDRANTS WITHIN THE CITY OF
DUBLIN, OHIO
WHEREAS, it is the duty and responsibility of plant or development
management to maintain their respective private fire hydrants in order
to keep them in proper working condition, and to check them on a regular
basis in order to assure that the hydrants will be in proper working
condition if needed; and,
WHEREAS, the maintenance of private fire hydrants is required pursuant
to the Dublin Fire Code and is necessary for the safety, health and
welfare of persons residing and working within the City of Dublin; and,
WHEREAS, it is necessary that the Fire Department be notified immediately
when any private fire hydrants are out of service regardless of length
of time.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Dublin,
State of Ohio, 7 of the elected members concurring that:
Section 1. For the purpose of this Section private fire hydrants shall
be defined as a hydrant connected into a private waterline.
Section 2. For purposes of safety, health and welfare, the following
rules and regulations shall apply for proper hydrant maintenance with
the City of Dublin:
-- A. Private fire hydrants shall be flushed at least once between April
15th and October 15th of each year, and private fire hydrants may
be pumped dry at this time or not later than October 15th of each
year.
B. Private fire hydrants should be checked every three (3) weeks of
each year during the period between October 15th and April 15th.
C. Private fire hydrant barrels are to be kept free from water from
October 15th through April 15th of each year.
D. All private fire hydrants on private lines are to be painted
white with green tops and caps.
E. All private fire hydrants are to be kept visible and accessible to
fire department apparatus.
F. A log shall be kept which is accessible to Fire Department personnel
indicating that private fire hydrants have been maintained.
Section 3. This Ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and
after the earliest period allowed by law.
