AWARENESS WEEK. ~ WHEREAS, Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) are recognized as major causes of morbidity in adults, teenagers and infants, affecting over ten million Americans annually; and WHEREAS, in 1981, the Columbus Health Department VD Clinic alone saw nearly 13,000 cases of STDs; and WHEREAS, individuals often avoid seeking proper medical care and suffer need- lessly out of fear and shame, thereby creating even more,severe medical prob- lems; and WHEREAS, continued public awareness and education are the keys to preventing and containing the epidemics of STD's and WHEREAS, the VD Hotline has made significant contributions to the STD control program in Columbus by providing the community with factual information and referral services, guiding them to a better understanding of sexually trans- mitted diseases; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF Dublin, State of Ohio, j7 the elected members concurring: III SECTION 1. That April 5-10, 1982, be designated as VD Awareness Week, to ~ reinforce our commitment to the continuing efforts leading to the control and eventual eradication of these major health problems, with the hope that this year's campaign might also plant the seed of change in attitudes about STDs.
