A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP/CITY OF
DUBLIN MERGER
WHEREAS, since approaching City status in 1987, Dublin City Council has
been working closely with representatives from surrounding townships
and counties to explore and evaluate the options available to Dublin to
improve and consolidate municipal services; and
WHEREAS, on November 8, 1988, the citizens of the City of Dublin and
Washington Township voted to establish a Merger Commission to fully study
the issue and to make recommendations to the citizens of both juris-
dictions; and
WHEREAS, on August 12, 1989, the Merger Commission unanimously approved
and adopted detailed Conditions of Merger which were the result of over
seventy-five meetings and seven months of research into issues such as
political representation, planning and zoning, financial conditions, and
municipal services; and
WHEREAS, the result of these joint study sessions was the conclusion
that a merger of Washington Township and Dublin would allow for the
continuation of a high level of services; and
WHEREAS, Council has previously expressed its support for the terms and
provisions contained within the Conditions of Merger; and
WHEREAS, on August 10, 1989, Council passed an Ordinance providing for
an election to amend the Dublin City Charter pursuant to the terms and
provisions of the Conditions of Merger; and
WHEREAS, the proposed Merger must be approved by a majority of voters
in both jurisdictions; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Washington Township Trustees have previously
endorsed the merger; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Dublin may look to their elected City Council
for direction in this critical decision.
NOW, THEREFORE, it is hereby resolved by the Council of the City of
Dublin, State of Ohio, 5 of the elected members concurring:
Section 1. That Council has been and remains fully committed to and
supportive of the City of Dublin/Washington Township Merger.
Section 2. That further, Council hereby endorses the Merger proposal
and related Charter Amendments on the November 7, 1989, election ballot.
Section 3. That the City Administration is directed and authorized to
undertake all necessary actions to provide information to the citizens
of Dublin regarding this issue.
