Based on 40 psf residential live load, L/360 deflection criteria and a bounce factor, we have determined that the nlaxiinum span of this particular joist configuration is 1 T-10". As the span length approaches the maximum span, the joists can still sag and feel somewhat bouncy even though the joists may be within the maximum span linlits. R-30C Thermal Batt Insulation is avai]able unfaced or with a kraft vapor retarder. LongTerm tn-Place Perforrnance R-30C Thermal Batt Insulation is dimen- sionally stable and wili not slump within the cathedral ceiling cavity. Due to its inorganic na.ture, Thermal Batt Insula- uon will not rot or mildew and is non- corrosive to steel, copper and aluminum. 5ixod for Proper Ventilation R-30C, Thermal Batts are designed to eliminate R-valae loss caused by com- pressing standard R-30 products in 2 X 10 cathedral ceiling construction. 8 1/4" thick, R-30C Batts prevent moisture damage and help assure long xoof life by providing 1" of ventilation air space between the insulation and roof deck. Easy Installation R-30C Thermal Batt Insulation is easy to handle and install. Designed to friction-fit in standard 2 X 10 cathedral ceiling construction, R-30C Batts elim- inate the need, in most applications, for venulation baffles. Trimming and fabrication can be done with an ordi- nary utility knife. Technical Design Considerations The krnft facing on this insulation will buna and ntust not Ue leff exposed. Install facing in substantial contact with the fiiush znateriai. Protect from open flame or other heat source. Cathedral ceiling applications require that the building envelope block the movement or air from the outdoor environment to the conditioned space. Neither the insulation nor its facing should be reJied upon to provide an air barrier. Failure to provide an air bamer could lead to loss of thermal control, discomfort of the Uuilding occupants and frozen pipes. Owens Corning recommends that a vapor retarder should be used in most climates. In climates requiring winter heating, the vapor retarder should be placed towazd the wann-in-winter side. In humid clirnates, like the Gulf Coast, follow local building practices for vapor retarder placement. In all applications utilizing a vapor retaz-der, maintaining the facing integiity may be important for effective moisture / hunnidity corztrol. Repair any punckures or tears in the facing by taping. Follow the tape manufacture's application recommen- dations. Insulation insialled too close to lig}it fixtures may affect the luminaire's performance. Do not instflll insulation on top of or wittun 3 inches of recessed lighl fixtures unless the fixttires are approved for such use. This is a requirement of the National Electric Code. R-30C Fiberglas° Insulation for 2X 14 Cathedral Ceilings in$taliation R-30C Tharmal Batts are intended to be friction-fit between wood rafters. In appLications with irregular spaced rafters, staple the facing flange to the bottom face of the roof rafter at 8 to 12 inch intervals. Tightly abut batts to prevent thermal Ieaks. Provide vent openings at eave and peal:. Cathedral ceiling insulation should be installed to provide a min- imum 1" ventilation passageway between the roof deck and insulation. Use a vent baffle to assure proper clearance where necessary. 91/z", R-30 Insulation Batts Standard Batts compressed into a 9'/4" caviry wit6 vend{apon b ffle added to allow 1" air space delive?iproximately R-28 8114", R-30C Insulation Batks New R-30C 6ans provide the recommended venfilation air space when propcrly installed and deliver a full R-30. SPECIFICATIONS: PolyMasterO Foamed=ln-Place Insulation R-501 PRODUCT USAGE PolyMaster Plaslic Foam is designed for lhermal and acousli- cal reduction and is highty cosl effeclive as an insulaling ma(erial. Because Ihe resulting foam is an "inerl solid malerial" according lo EPA, it is suilable lor applicalions such as filling of Underground Storage Tanks (USTs) and other applicaiions where inert solids are required lo (ill empiy "voids." As an insulaling malerial, the foam is designed to be used in new or retro-IiI commercial and intluslrial applicalions to insulate concrele block and vertical walls, PRODUCT DESCRIPTION R-501 foam is a second generation amino-plasl polymer which protluces a non-loxic and odor-Iree malerial which is environ- menlally friendly. PolyMasler's loaming process, which is unique to Ihe induslry, uses lwo waler-soluable components o( a Iree-Ilowing powdered resin and an aqueous based foaming agent. Compressed air is used lo generafe a tlense closed- cell loam which is then physically coaled wilh Ihe water- soluble resin. The loaming agenl reacts with Ihe amino-plast resin within 1030 seconds, lransforming Ihe (oam inlo a rigid, plastic solid. This process is similar to Ihe reaclion of a two- part apoxy resin and produces a(inished product lhal is inerl, lighl-weight, antl non-flammable. Unlike resins used for convenlional (oametl-in-plaee materials made from liquid lormaldefiyde and urea, PolyMaster's kiln- dried polymer resins are complete and only require mixing with water to make consislent foam every fime. R-501 Plaslic Foam is (ully expanded as it leaves fhe mixing equipmenl, and no luture expansion of lhe product will occur. The light weighl foain is sell-supporling up lo Iwenly vertical feet making it an exceplional material (or cavily fill lo help achieve a high comfort index and low energy costs. The hardening lime for R-501 can be adjusted from 10-30 seconds for various applicalions. In addifion, PolyMaster R-501 can be applied year-round because ambienf lemperalures do nof affecl the cold selting (hardening) process. R-501 foam has the unique ability lo self-insulate againsf (ire as it forms a hard, Charred crusf when exposed to intense heal or flame. There is no ilame advance beyond Ihe source of ignilion. PolyMaster R-501 will noi drip or melf under fire condilions. INSTALLATION The R-501 product (resin) is shipped in dry powder lorm and has an unlimited shelf life. When neetled; Ihe resin is simply mixed wilh a prescribed volume of waler, assuring consislen( results wilhoul worrying aboul product shelf-life. During appli- calion, PolyMaster R-501 can be injected inlo a wall cavify Ihrough a hole as small as 5/8 inch and can be installed inlo drywall, (rame, brick or block conslruclion cavilies. Because of ils superior insulating properlies, linal drying to remove lraces of waler will need 'aI least 48 hours or more belore final linishing is performad.
