of the existing fire alarm devices. These drawings are not the required Fire Protection Shop Drawings
for the proposed revisions! Much of the information required pursuant to this code section (907.1.1
OBC) and as further referenced by section A4.5.1.1 of the NFPA 72 standard, was missing or was
incomplete on the submission made, for our review. Please submit information pertaining to Items 7, 9
and 10 so that we may continue our review of this application. Furthermore, are the two (2) devices
shown and highlighted on the lower/left power plan to be new, or are these devices relocated from
somewhere? The demolition plan for this portion of the work di not locate such `existing' devices for
relocation. Please clarify.

In accordance with the provisions of these code sections, the measurement for the `appliance' shall be
taken to the `area' of the visual alarm initiating device lens. This appliance measurement shall placed
such that the bottom of the lens is not less than 80 inches above the finish floor surface or 6 inches below
the ceiling, whichever is lower. Some ceiling-mounted audio/visual alarm appliances are proposed for
this project. Please verify the measurement of the ceiling and more importantly, the measurement to the
device lens, as taken from the finish floor surface. These drawings do not coordinate these requirements
for the new or relocated devices. Please verify.
This review does not preclude the necessity to conform with provisions which may have been omitted or
overlooked in the review process, but which are requirements of the code. Ultimate responsibility for legal
compliance with the Standards of Safety rest with the registered design professional, the tenant and the owner.
Plan Approval will be valid only upon receipt by the City of Dublin, Division of Building Standards, of one signed
copy of this addendum.

General Notes:
• Strobes are designed to flash at 1 flash per second minimum over their "Regulated Voltage Range'. Note that NFPA-72 specifies a bash rate
of 1 to 2 fleshes per second and ADA Guidelines specify a lash rate of 1 to 3 flashes per second.
• AM csndele ratings represent minimum effective Strobe Intensity based on UL Standard 1971.
• Series NS Strobe products are listed under UL Standard 1971 for indoor use with a temperature range of 32•F to 120°F (0°C to 49•C) and
maximum humidity of 93% (t 2%).
• Series NH horns are listed under UL Standard 464 for audible signal appilarces (Indoor use only).
• "Regulated Voltage Range" Is the newest terminology used by UL to identity the voltage range. Prior to this change UL used the
terminology "Listed Voltage Range".

ARCHITECTS AND ENGINEERS SPECIFICATIONS
The audibleNisual notification appliances shall be Wheelock Series NS Horn Strobe appliances and Series NH Horn appliances or
approved equals. The Series NS appliances shall meet and be listed for UL Standard 1971(Emergency Devices for the Hearing-
Impaired for Indoor Fire Protection Service). The Series NH Horn shall be UL Listed under Standard 464 (Fire Protective Signaling).
The ham strobe shall be listed for indoor use and shag meet the requirements of FCC Part 15 Class B. All inputs shall be compatible
with standard reverse polarity supervision of circuit wiring by the Fire Alarm Control Panel (FRCP).
The audible portion of the appliance shall have a minimum of two (2) field selectable settings for dBA levels (90 and 95 dBA) and shag
have a choice of continuous or temporal (Code 3) audible outputs.
The strobe portion of the appliance shall produce a flash rate of one (1) flash per second over the Regulated Voltage Range and shag
incorporate a Xenon flashtube enclosed in a rugged Lexan lens. The Series NS shall be of low current design. Where wall mount,
Multi-Candela appliances are specified, the strobe intensity shall have field selectable settings and shall be rated per UL Standard 1971
for 15/30/75/110 candela. Where ceiling mount, Multi-Candela appliances are specified, the strobe intensity shall have field selectable
settngs and shall be rated per UL Standard 1971 for 15130/75/95 candela or 115/177 candela. The selector switch for selecting the
candela setting shall be tamper resistant. The 1575 candela strobe shag be specified when 15 candela UL Standard 1971 Listing with
75 candela on-axis is required (e.g. ADA compliance).
When synchronization is required, the appliance shall be compatible with the Wheelock SM, DSM Sync Modules or the Wheelock PS-24-
8MC Power Supplies with built-in Patented Sync Protoccl. The strobes shag not drift out of synchronization at any time during operation.
If the sync module or Power Supply fails to operate, (i.e„ contacts remain dosed), the strobes shall revert to a non-synchronized flash-
rate. The appliance shall also be designed so that the audible signal may be silenced while maintaining strobe activation.
The Series NS Horn Strobes and NH ham shall incorporate a Patented Universal Mounting Plate that shall allow mounting to a single-
gang, double-gang, flinch square, 100mm European type backboxes, orths SHBB Surface Backbox, tf required, an NATP (Notfcation
Appliance Trimplate) shall be provided.
All notification appliances shag be backward compatible.
