been reviewed for compliance with the provisions of the 2007 Ohio Building Code (OBC). The review was based

The Fire Alarm Drawings are signed and sealed by Dan R. Rhodes, Ohio registered engineer no. 57289. The fire
protection contractor is MJB Electric Service, Certification #53-25-1351 and the Application identifies the fire
alarm systems Installer as Mike Bonnetta, Ohio State Certification Number 54-25-2610, all to comply with the
requirements of OBC Section 105.3 and have been reviewed, therefore, in accord with OBC section 105.3.1.4.
This NONCONFORMANCE PLAN APPROVAL is issued by the City of Dublin, Division of Building Standards,
in accordance with Section 106.3.1.1 OBC. The building official may approve construction documents which do
not conform with the requirements of the rules of the board when such nonconformance is not considered to result
in serious hazard and the owner's representative subsequently submits revised construction documents showing
evidence of compliance with the applicable rules. In the event such documents are not received within thirty
days, the building official shall issue an adjudication order revoking the plan approval. (Emphasis Added)
The final date for submission of revised documents with the following item(s) in full compliance with the OBC
is November 15, 2007 as a condition of the issuance of this Plan Approval.
Part I of this notice serves as a Correction Letter, allowing you to resubmit revised plans and/or additional
information as noted.
PART I. CORRECTION LETTER
The following item(s) shall be brought into full conformance with the 2007 OBC prior to the issuance of final

1. OBC 106.1.1 Information on construction documents. Because the construction documents do not
have enough information for a complete plan review, this correction letter is a request for missing
information and contains a review only of the items submitted. A complete review will be performed
upon receipt of the required information. This may result in additional items not contained in this
correction letter; Section 106 OBC.
Submit the following minimum information for review:
1.1 The Drawing Legend and specification cut-sheets did not indicate which "Model Number" of
each device was being selected for use on this project. Please provide so that we may complete
our review of this application.
For the information of the Applicant the following item(s) are required for code compliance, but are not
necessarily covered in detail in the construction documents This list is a reminder to the design professional
and contractors of issues which are to be satisfactorily dealt with in the field:
2. The certificate of approval of fire protection plans shall be posted in a conspicuous location outside of the
building or in the front part of the premises on which is, or will be, located the approved building or
equipment. The owner and the contractor shall, so far as possible, preserve and keep said certificate until
the completion of the work to which the approved construction documents relate; Section 105.7.2 OBC.
3. The proposed construction shall conform to the requirements of Chapter 11 OBC and the "Americans with
Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines" (ADAAG).
4. Provide a record of completion for each completed fire alarm system in accordance with Section 907.17
and NFPA 72 Completion Documents.
5. Upon completion of the fire protective signaling system, all alarm-initiating devices and circuits, alarm-
indicating appliances and circuits, supervisory-signal initiating devices and circuits, signaling line circuits,
and primary and secondary power supplies shall be subjected to a 100 percent acceptance test in
accordance with NFPA 72A and 72E listed in Chapter 35; Section 907.16 OBC.
6. OBC 907 Acceptance testing: When the installation of the detectors is complete, each detector and all
interconnecting wiring for multiple-station detectors shall be subject to a 100-percent acceptance test in
accordance with the household fire warning equipment provisions of NFPA 72 listed in Chapter 35.
7. No electrical work (conduits, cables or other electrical apparatus) may be covered or concealed without
visual inspection and approval by the electrical field inspector as per OBC 109.
8. All electrical work will comply with the requirements of Article 27 OBC and the National Electric Code
NFPA 70, OBC approved edition and is subject to the approval of the electrical inspector, in accordance
with Section 109 of the OBC.

a request for clarification and/or modification of the following items:

Fourth Floor booster panel, verging the current size of the batteries provided, pursuant to the
new load you are adding with the inclusion of these new devices.
2. OBC 907.1.1 Construction documents. Construction documents for fire alarm systems shall be
submitted for review and approval prior to system installation. Construction documents shall include, but
not be limited to, all of the following:
1. A floor plan which indicates the use of all rooms.
2. Locations of alarm-initiating and notification appliances.
3. Alarm control and trouble signaling equipment.
4. Annunciation.
5. Power connection.
6. Battery calculations.
7. Conductor type and sizes.
8. Voltage drop calculations.
9. Manufacturers, model numbers and listing information for equipment, devices and materials.
10. Details of ceiling height and construction.
11. The interface of fire safety control functions
Please submit Shop Drawings as Designed or Engineered by the Design Professional or Individual
Certified to design fire alarm/detection systems for the required changes to the existing "Building Fire
Alarm/Detection System " Much of the information required pursuant to this code section (907.1.1 OBC)
and as further referenced by section A4.5.1.1 of the NFPA 72 standard, was missing or was incomplete
on the submission made, for our review. Please submit information pertaining to Items 3, S, 6, 8 and 9 so
that we may continue our review of this application.
3. OBC 907.9 Alarm notification appliances. Alarm notification appliances shall be provided and shall be
listed for their purpose. Audible and visual alarms shall be installed in accordance with the "ADAAG" and
NFPA 72.
ADAAG 4.28.3. Visual alarm initiating signal appliances shall be mounted in accordance with Section
4.28.3 ADAAG.
(6) The appliance shall be placed 80 in above the highest floor level within the space or 6 in below the
ceiling, whichever is lower.
In accordance with the provisions of these code sections, the measurement for the `appliance' shall be
taken to the `area' of the visual alarm initiating device lens. This appliance measurement shall placed
such that the bottom of the lens is not less than 80 inches above the finish floor surface or 6 inches below
the ceiling, whichever is lower. These drawings do not coordinate these requirements. Please verify.
This review does not preclude the necessity to conform with provisions which may have been omitted or
overlooked in the review process, but which are requirements of the code. Ultimate responsibility for legal
compliance with the Standards of Safety rest with the registered design professional, the tenant and the owner.
Plan Approval will be valid only upon receipt by the City of Dublin, Division of Building Standards, of one signed
copy of this addendum.

Wheelock products must be used within their published specifications and must be PROPERLY specified, applied, installed,
operated, maintained and operationally tested in accordance with their installation instructions at the time of installation and
at least twice a year or more often and in accordance with local, state and federal codes, regulations and laws. Specification,
application, installation, operation, maintenance and testing must be performed by qualified personnel for proper operation in
accordance with all of the latest National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Underwriters' Laboratories (UL), National
Electrical Code (NEC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), local, state, county, province, district, federal
and other applicable building and fire standards, guidelines, regulations, laws and codes including, but not limited to. all
appendices and amendments and the requirements of the local authority having jurisdiction (AHJ).
ARCHITECTS AND ENGINEERS SPECIFICATIONS
The audible/visual notification appliances shall be Wheelock Series NS Horn Strobe appliances and Series NH Horn appli-
ances or approved equals. The Series NS appliances shall meet and be listed for UL Standard 1971(Emergency Devices for
the Hearing-Impaired for Indoor Fire Protection Service). The Series NH Horn shall be UL Listed under Standard 464 (Fire
Protective Signaling). The horn strobe shall be listed for indoor use and shall meet the requirements of FCC Part 15 Class B.
All inputs shall be compatible with standard reverse polarity supervision of circuit wiring by the Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP).
The audible portion of the appliance shall have a minimum of two (2) field selectable settings for dBA levels (90 and 95 dBA)
and shall have a choice of continuous or temporal (Code 3) audible outputs.
The strobe portion of the appliance shall produce a flash rate of one (1) flash per second over the Regulated Voltage Range and
shall incorporate a Xenon flashtube enclosed in a rugged Lexan lens. The Series NS shall be of low current design. Where wall
mount, Multi-Candela appliances are specified, the strobe intensity shall have field selectable settings and shall be rated per
UL Standard 1971 for 15/30/75/110 candela. The selector switch for selecting the candela setting shall be tamper resistant.
The 1575 candela strobe shall be specified when 15 candela UL Standard 1971 Listing with 75 candela on-axis is required
(e.g. ADA compliance).
When synchronization is required, the appliance shall be compatible with Wheelock's SM, DSM Sync Modules or Wheelock's
PS-12/24-8CP and PS-12/24-8MP Power Supplies with built-in Patented Sync Protocol. The strobes shall not drift out of
synchronization at any time during operation. If the sync module or Power Supply fails to operate, (i.e., contacts remain closed),
the strobes shall revert to a non-synchronized flash-rate. The appliance shall also be designed so that the audible signal may
be silenced while maintaining strobe activation.
The Series NS Horn Strobes and NH horn shall incorporate a Patented Universal Mounting Plate that shall allow mounting to
a single-gang, double-gang, 4-inch square, 100mm European type backboxes, or the SHBB Surface Backbox. If required, an
NATP (Notification Appliance Trimplate) shall be provided.
All notification appliances shall be backward compatible.

24VDC Wall Mount rating is the maximum RMS current within the listed voltage range (16-33v
Models 121575W for 24v units). For strobes the UL max current is usually at the minimum
12 vdc 0.152 listed voltage (16v for 24v units). For audibles the max current is usually at

Wheelock products must be used within their published specifications and must be PROPERLY specified, applied, installed, operated, maintained
and operationally tested in accordance with their installation instructions at the time of installation and at least twice a year or more often and in
accordance with local, state and federal codes, regulations and laws. Specification, application, installation, operation, maintenance and testing
must be performed by qualified personnel for proper operation in accordance with all of the latest National Fire Protection Association (NFPA),
Underwriters' Laboratories (UL), National Electrical Code (NEC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), local, state, county,
province, district, federal and other applicable building and fire standards, guidelines, regulations, laws and codes including, but not limited to, all
appendices and amendments and the requirements of the local authority having jurisdiction (AHJ).
Architects and Engineers Specifications
The visual notification appliances shall be Wheelock Series RSS Strobe Appliances or approved equals. The Series RSS shall meet and be
listed for UL Standard 1971 (Emergency Devices for the Hearing-Impaired) for Indoor Fire Protection Service. The strobe shall be listed for
indoor use and shall meet the requirements of FCC Part 15 Class B. The strobe appliances shall produce a flash rate of one (1) flash per
second over the Regulated Voltage Range and shall incorporate a Xenon flashtube enclosed in a rugged Lexan@ lens. All inputs shall be
compatible with standard reverse polarity supervision of circuit wiring by a Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP). When Strobe Plates are to be
installed, they shall be the Wheelock Series RSSP Strobe Plate and shall have the same electronic circuitry as the Wheelock Series RSS.
The Series RSS Strobe shall be of low current design. Where Multi-Candela appliances are specified, the strobe intensity shall have field
selectable settings and shall be rated per UL Standard 1971 at 15/30/75/110cd or 135/185cd for wall mount and 15/30/75/95cd or 115/177cd
for ceiling mount. The selector switch for selecting the candela shall be tamper resistant. The 1575 candela strobe shall be specified when
15 candela UL Standard 1971 Listing with 75 candela on axis is required (e.g. ADA compliance).
When synchronization is required, the appliance shall be compatible with Wheelock's SM, DSM Sync Modules or Wheelock's PS-12/24-8CP
and PS-12/24-8MP Power Supplies with built-in Patented Sync Protocol. The strobes shall not drift out of synchronization at any time during
operation. If the sync module or Power Supply fails to operate, (i.e., contacts remain closed), the strobe shall revert to a non-synchronized
flash rate. The strobes shall be designed for indoor surface of flush mounting.
The Series RSS Strobe Appliances shall incorporate a Patented, Integral Strobe Mounting Plate that shall allow mounting to single-gang,
double-gang, 4-inch square, 100mm European type backboxes, or the SHBB Surface Backbox. If required, an NATP (Notification Appliance
Trimplate) shall be provided. An attaching cover plate shall be provided to give the Appliance and attractive appearance. The Appliance shall
not have any mounting holes or screw heads visible when the installation is completed.
The Series RSSP Multi-Candela or single candela Strobe Plate shall mount to either a standard 4 inch square backbox for flush mounting, or
the Wheelock SBL2 backbox for surface mounting.
All notification appliances shall be backward compatible.
