This action would bring the City's Electrical Code up to the most current standard available. It is important to keep up to date Code for at least two reasons: The first is that changes in technology and safe product usage have occurred. Such differences are addressed by the updating of the Code. A second reason is that the adoption of the most current Code is a major factor in the rating given the Building Inspection Division when the division receives an Insurance Services Organization (ISO) rating. Cities that adopt the newest Codes and enforce them properly receive higher ratings and that results in lower insurance payments for the citizens because the risk of loss is not as great in that City. For these reasons I recommend Council approve this Ordinance. C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\Adoption of 2002 NEC.doc
