Hansley, City Manager Initiated by: Dana L. McDaniel, Director of Servi e Date: July 14, 1999 Re: Recreation Center Fitness Equipment Bid Process and Ordinance 84-99 Attached for your consideration, please find Ordinance 84-99 accepting the lowest and best bid by item for Community Recreation Center, Phase II, fitness equipment. Also attached for your review is a copy of the bid tabulation worksheet. This bid project involves the purchase of treadmills (item #1) and transports (item #2). Prior to seeking formal bids for this project, Tracey Uhl, of the Division of Recreation Services, compared and tested fitness equipment and developed detailed specifications based on functionality in connection with the operation of the fitness/wellness component of the Community Recreation Center (CRC). As a result of this research, thirty-five (35) items were identified for purchase and bids were sought in February. However the bids received for the treadmills and transports were deemed too high and staff determined to re-bid these two items. As reflected in the attached bid tabulation, the City received bid proposals from the following vendors: Berry' s Barbell The Fitness Store Universal ProMaxima After analyzing the bids received Staff recommends awarding the treadmill purchase to Barry's Barbell. The bid submitted by Barry's Barbell for the treadmills represents a savings of $900.00 per treadmill over the bid received in February. Staff recommends awarding the transport purchase to Fitness Store. The bid submitted by Fitness Store for the transports represents a savings of $200 per transport over the bid received in February. In order to meet the projected opening date of the CRC Phase II Fitness area it will be necessary to pass Ordinance 84-99 as an emergency at the second reading on August 9. Please direct any questions regarding these bids or Staff' s recommendations to Dana McDaniel at 761-6570. Thank you. DLM/tb \PER\TB209\WP61\DOC\DANA\MEMOS\COUNCIL\FITEQUIP.
