MEMORANDUM
TO: Members of Dublin City Council
FROM: Timothy C. Hansley, City Manager
SUBJECT: Salt Bids
DATE: September 9, 1993
INITIATED BY: David L. Harding, Director of Personnel & Purchasing ~
Attached for your consideration please find Ordinance No. 78-93
accepting the lowest and best bid for road salt for the time period
covering November 1, 1993 through March 31, 1994. Also attached
for your consideration is the bid tabulation form.
Bids were requested based upon an estimated quantity of 4,000 tons
for the above specified contract period, which is consistent with
estimates used the three previous years. As reflected in the
attached bid tabulation, the City received bids from the following
vendors:
· Morton International, Inc.
. Cargill, Inc.
· North American Salt Company
· AKZO Salt, Inc.
As noted in the bid tabulation, the bid submitted by Morton
International, Inc. in the amount of $33.83/ton is the lowest bid
and, in staff's judgment, is also the best bid. Therefore, it is
staff's recommendation that said bid be accepted. (For reference
purposes it should be noted that Morton International is the same
company which has faithfully provided salt to the City during the
winter of 1990-91, 1991-92, and 1992-93.) Morton International's
bid of $33.83/ton for this year compares with their bid price of
$32.54/ton last year, which represents a 4% increase in pricing.
