This position is necessary due to the fact that a member of our Police Officer staff has confirmed plans to retire by January, 2014. The Division of Police has a current eligibility list of Police Officer candidates. Staff would like to take advantage of the June 2014 academy class with the City of Columbus Division of Police to hire a replacement officer candidate now, so that he /she will be out of the academy and in field training by the time our veteran officer retires in January. Recommendation Staff recommends that Council dispense with the second /reading public hearing and adopt Ordinance No. 23 -14 by emergency at its April 28, 2014 meeting, authorizing an additional Police Officer position for a temporary period of time.
