AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 1193.11,
DRIVEWAYS, OF THE DUBLIN CODIFIED
ORDINANCES TO REGULATE ALL RESIDENTIAL
DRIVEWAY WIDTHS, AND DECLARING AN
EMERGENCY
WHEREAS, the Planning Department has conducted research into the regula-
tion of residential driveway widths; and,
WHEREAS, the findings suggest that current regulations need to be en-
forced and modified; and,
WHEREAS, it is recognized that the regulation of driveway widths is
necessary to promote the general health, safety, and welfare of the
residents.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Dublin, State
of Ohio, 7 of the elected members concurring:
Section 1. That Chapter 1193, Section 1193.11, Driveways, be amended to
read as follows: A driveway is any access corridor leading from a public
right-of-way to a parking lot, aisle, parking circulation area, garage,
off-street parking space or loading space. Each driveway shall be
located and designed in a manner that provides for the safety of motor-
ists and pedestrians.
Section 2. That Chapter 1193, Section 1193.11 (a) , Driveways be amended
to read as follows: A driveway serving a residential parking area or lot
shall be regulated as follows: Parking areas containing one to eight
parking spaces shall have a minimum width of ten feet. Driveways shall
be no less than three feet from a side lot line or adjacent to the side
lot line where a single common drive is provided for two adjoining lots.
Driveways shall have a minimum width of ten feet and a maximum width of
twenty feet at the street right-of-way line. Driveways shall have a
minimum width of sixteen feet and a maximum width of twenty-six feet
including two 3-foot flairs, one on each side, at the curb line. In no
case shall the width of the driveway exceed the width of the garage
entrance. Driveways exceeding twenty feet in width shall taper in width
from the garage or parking area to the street right-of-way line. Curb
cuts or points of ingress/egress shall be generally restricted to promotE
traffic safety, and, limited to one per single-family residence.
Section 3. That Chapter 1193, Section 1193.11 (b) , Driveways, be amendec
to read as follows: A driveway serving a commercial parking area or lot
shall be regulated as follows: Driveways shall be designed so that
vehicles entering or leaving such parking lot will be traveling in a
forward motion. Driveways shall have a maximum width of thirty feet at
the street right-of-way line and a maximum width of forty feet at the
curb line, including two 10-foot radii curb returns. Driveways, exclushe
of curb returns, shall be ten feet or more from the side lot line and
twenty feet or more from another access drive measured at the street
right-of-way line. Driveways shall be limited to one per lot or parcel
of land or shall be limited to one for each 200 feet of frontage.
Section 4. That Chapter 1193, Section 1193.11 (c) , Driveways, be amendec
to read as follows: Exceptions to standards (a) - (b) require review and
approval by the Director of the Planning Department or Designee(s).
Appeals may be made to the Board of Zoning Appeals in accordance with
Section 1129.02 (a) .

Section 5. That this Ordinance be declared an emergency as it is
necessary to regulate driveway widths to promote the general health,
safety, and welfare of the residents.
