Memo
RE: Resolution 17-08, Memorial Tournament Traffic Regulation, Signage and
Noise Waivers
Summary
As in previous years, during the week of the Memorial Tournament there is a need to implement
a plan which best facilitates the safe and efficient movement of traffic to and from the Ivluirfield
area.
In order to do this, the City and the Police Division need the ability to change traffic patterns and
parking regulations in Muirfield Village to include implementing one-way traffic on designated
streets and prohibiting parking on a variety of streets. The only change in this year's resolution
would be an extension of the waiver of traffic and parking regulations in Muirfield Village
through 1Vlonday, June 2, 2008. This will be necessary only in the event that inclement weather
would extend tournament play by one day. In recent years, when this has occurred it has
impacted our exiting traffic times, extending them for an hour or two on each occasion.
In addition, due to the large influx of people to the lUluirfield area during the tournament week it
is necessary to allow some flexibility for contractors to collect trash from the receptacles set up
for this event. Because of this, we are again requesting a waiver of the restrictions regarding
loading and unloading waste receptacles as outlined in the resolution.
This resolution allows us, once again, to implement a safe traffic plan to accommodate the large
volume of traffic for one of the signature events in the City. We anticipate generally following
the same plan «~•e have used in recent years.
Recommendation
Approval of Resolution 17-08 at the Monday, April 7 Council meeting.
