RE: Resolution 45-05 Adopting the National Incident Management System Guidelines
INITIATED BY: Mike Epperson, Chief of Police
Through Homeland Security Presidential Directive / HSPD-5 President Bush has set as policy for the
United States Government to establish a single, comprehensive approach to domestic incident
management.
This National Incident Management System (NIMS) provides a consistent approach for Federal, State,
and local governments to work effectively and efficiently together in response to incidents regardless of
cause, size, or complexity.
The Department of Homeland Security encourages local governments to formally adopt the NIMS
principles and policies as well as having all first responders complete an awareness course. Future
Homeland Security funds will require a demonstrated adoption ofNIMS.
Our Police Division is in the process of having all officers trained in this system and adoption of this
resolution will demonstrate our formal recognition ofNIMS.
