HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-05 Resolution RECORD OF RESOLUTIONS _~ayton !-egaU~.!?i1l:J~~q~m~~_~~?________________________________________________ ___ ___________ ________ _____ _ ____ -------- - - ---- Resolution No, Passed , 20_ ------- ---- --- __=====-_===:============C_C:::'=:==-:CC-C' 01:4)5 - -- -- - -====----------===--~-=--===,===-- A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE RETENTION OF JOBS AT THE DEFENSE SUPPLY CENTER COLUMBUS WHEREAS, the Defense Supply Center Columbus is a diverse organization of professionals who serve the nation by providing vital repair parts to the nation's military forces; OSCC is the 11 th largest employer in Central Ohio, with 6,000 employees who live in 40 counties across the State of Ohio; and WHEREAS, protecting the jobs at the Defense Supply Center Columbus (OSCC) during the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) review process is critical, as the economic impact of the OSCC is regional, extending well beyond Franklin County and the surrounding areas; and WHEREAS, the OSCC effectively and efficiently manages more than 1.6 million items, which accounts for 46 percent of the Defense Logistics Agency's total managed items; in addition, the OSCC processes more than 5.6 million orders annually and is responsible for more than $2.8 billion in annual sales; and OSCC's annual payroll of $382 million generates $21.6 million in city and state taxes; and WHEREAS, a broad-based coalition of public officials, corporate leaders, community leaders and other concerned stakeholders is working to convey the message to leaders in Washington, D.C. that the OSCC and its employees are vital to Central Ohio communities, businesses and organizations. NOW, THE!EFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by Council of the City of Dublin, State I of Ohio, j} of the elected members concurring that: Section 1. We hereby join with the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce in voicing support to the United States Congress for the retention of 6,100 jobs at the OSCC, which has an annual regional economic impact of $600 million dollars. We recognize the OSCC employees as an integral part of the Central Ohio economy and community, as well as the national defense. Section 2.
