Mr. Strip called the meeting to order at 7:25 p.m. on Tuesday, June
6. Discussion followed about the rationale for granting money to
the Nicklaus Museum, including the many contributions the golf
course has made toward the development of Dublin as it is known
today.
Hotel/Motel Tax Applications
1. I-270/U.S.33/S.R. 161 Interchange Landsc~inq
This application submitted by the City was discussed, and Mr.
Strip stated that a full Council discussion regarding their
philosophy on use of bed tax dollars would be helpful to make
a recommendation on this application.
Mrs. Boring indicated that she cannot justify this kind of
expenditure for one interchange landscaping. She believes
that this application should be reviewed in the context of the
capital budget discussions. She is strongly opposed to the
use of bed tax dollars for this project.
Following further discussion, it was determined that a
recommendation will be made to Council to deny the request for
interchange landscaping funding.
2. Golden Bear International Three Tour Challenae
Mr. Strip emphasized that Wendy's, the sponsor of this event
is a good corporate neighbor and supporter of Dublin.
Mrs. Boring noted that this should be reviewed by the entire
Council. She added that this event is a for-profit event and
does not think government entities should provide funding.
Mr. Strip added that another consideration is the national
exposure this event brings to Dublin which is an important
part of the economic development program. But since the
Committee members are divided on this issue, he will bring
this to the entire Council for a philosophical discussion.
3. Dublin Area Art League
The Committee will recommend a grant of $750 of their
requested $1,250.
