RE: Ordinance 15-09 -Changing the Name of a Section of Darby Street
to Nm•th Street
Summary
Darby Street in Historic Dublin currently originates on Bridge Street between the Dublin
Veterinary Clinic and the BriHi site and terminates on High Street, south of the library.
Proceeding north on Darby Street from Bridge Street, Darby Street makes a ninety degree turn to
the east in front of the library. This causes confusion as the street intersects both Bridge and
High streets and runs in both the north-south direction and the east-west direction.
One of the goals of the Historic Dublin wayfinding project is to make visitors comfortable and
confident when moving around in the District. Staff requests authorization to change the name
of Darby Street in the east-west direction in front of the library to North Street. This will be the
extension of North Street from east of High Street and through the length of the currently
dedicated right-of--way. Please see the attached maps for reference.
Engineering and Police have reviewed this request and support the change. There are no
addresses assigned for property or utilities along the portion of Darby Street to be renamed, and
it will eliminate the confusion caused by Darby Street intersecting two directional opposite
streets. Additionally, staff has contacted the adjoining property owners, the Dublin library, and
the Blarney Borthers, Ltd. regarding this proposed change. They expressed no concerns.
Recommendation
Staff recommends approval of Ordinance 15-09 at the second reading/public hearing on April 6,
2009.
