Re: Resolution No. 10-22, - Waiving Competitive Bidding Requirements for
provider of hotel rooms for the 2022 Dublin Irish Festival
Background
Section 8.04 (c) of the Revised Charter authorizes Council, by a vote in favor of no less than five
(5) members, to waive the competitive bidding requirement if it determines that such waiver is in
the best interest of the City. The attached resolution waives competitive bidding requirements for
hotel rooms for the Dublin Irish Festival.
The Embassy Suites hotel is currently the only open hotel in Dublin that has the total number and
type of room needed to house participants of the Dublin Irish Festival. The budget for hotel rooms
for the 2022 Irish Festival is $75,000, and staff will book over 600 total hotel nights for this year’s
festival. Staff plans to go out to bid for hotel rooms for the 2023 Irish Festival as the new
DoubleTree Hotel (formerly Crowne Plaza) will be open and will likely have the number of hotel
rooms necessary for this event.
Recommendation
Staff recommends approval of Resolution No. 10-22 waiving competitive bidding requirements for
the provider of hotel rooms for the 2022 Dublin Irish Festival.
