Brautigam, City Manager DATE: June 13, 2007 INITIATED BY: Mike Epperson, Chief of Police RE: Resolution 35-07 - In Support of a Grant Request to the Attorney General for Continuation of the D.A.R.E. Program Summary In order to assist local law enforcement agencies in presenting the D.A.R.E. program, the state Attorney General's Office is once again offering matching grant funds. These funds are specifically earmarked for D.A.R.E. officers' salaries for those agencies that teach the approved curriculum. The City expects to receive $37,828.00 in funds from the Attorney General's office. It is important to note that these funds do not require the City to hire additional personnel, but will enhance the program support. Although the City is required to match these funds, the overall personnel costs to deliver the program will be reduced. In order to qualify for the funds, the Attorney General requires a resolution of support from the local governing authority with the understanding that the local government must match the funds. Recommendation Staff recommends that Council approve this resolution in support of a grant request for continuation of the D.A.R.E. program.
