Form No 30043 Ordinance No. 19-~4 Passed 2Q AN ORDINANCE TO CHANGE THE NAME OF METATEC BOULEVARD TO DISCOVERY BOULEVARD IN THE CITY OF DUBLIN, OHIO WHEREAS, the City received a request to have the name of Metatec Boulevard changed; and WHEREAS, the name will be changed to Discovery Boulevard, as originally platted; and WHEREAS, the Dublin Division Engineering and Division of Police reviewed this request and do not feel that this will be detrimental to the public health or welfare; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Dublin, State of Ohio, ~ of the elected members concurring: Section 1. That the name of Metatec Boulevard be changed to Discovery Boulevard in the City of Dublin. Section 2. That the City Engineer is hereby directed to have the plat corrected to conform to this change. Cox, P.E., Assistant Director of Engineering -Development Re: Ordinance 19-04 Requesting Approval to Change the Name of Metatec Boulevard to Discovery Boulevard in the City of Dublin, Ohio Summary The Division of Engineering has received a written request from Chris Munro, President and CEO of Metatec International, regarding changing the name of Metatec Boulevard. Metatec International is currently located at 7001 Metatec Boulevard. Their offices actually encompass the entire land area between Post Road and Perimeter Drive between Metatec Boulevard and Wilcox Road. The letter states that another company is purchasing Metatec (their name is to be changed to Inoveris) and they no longer wish to have the Metatec name associated with the company. The street name for this piece of roadway was changed in 1994 (ordinance 04-94) from Discovery Boulevard to Metatec Boulevard. A copy of that ordinance is attached for your reference. We would prefer not to use a name associated with businesses, as we would probably have similar requests to entertain in the future. Therefore, we are recommending changing the name back to the original of Discovery Boulevard. One other property will be affected by a street name change. The daycare located at 6701 Metatec Boulevard will be required to change its address. A representative from Inoveris has contacted the daycare. Please find attached a copy of a letter to the daycare from Inoveris detailing the items that Inoveris will be providing to the daycare due to the street name change The Checkfree building is addressed from Perimeter Drive and will not be affected. Recommendation Staff recommends that the street name for Metatec Boulevard revert back to Discovery Boulevard. This ordinance had its first reading at the March 1, 2004 Council meeting. Upon this second reading, staff recommends the approval and adoption of the attached ordinance. The Division of Engineering staff, on recommendation by the Division of Police, is currently contemplating changing the street name of the piece of Wilcox Road in this area. This piece was disconnected many years ago when US 33 was constructed. There are currently no addresses that would be affected by this change. We recommend using one of the following new names for Wilcox Road: Holt Road or Shields Drive. These two names honor two of the original gentleman involved in creating the Village of Dublin. Staff will prepare an ordinance for Council consideration to change the name of this portion of Wilcox Road once direction is provided regarding an appropriate and agreeable new street name. Recommendation We recommend that the street name for Metatec Boulevard revert back to Discovery Boulevard and approval of the attached ordinance.
